Hourglass Creek
Wind Energy Centre
Invenergy acquired the Hourglass Creek Wind Energy Centre from a previous developer in 2016. Since that time, Invenergy has continued to collect meteorological data and undertaken other onsite work to understand environmental conditions for the purpose of determining the layout of wind turbines and associated infrastructure. Engagement with local stakeholders and First Nations has been ongoing. Information received from local stakeholders and First Nations has been used to improve our design and overall project plans. The project is being prepared for submission into BC Hydro's 2024 Call for Power.
Current efforts are focused on refining site designs, developing meaningful partnerships with local First Nations and planning a low-impact route for the project's transmission line.
The Hourglass Creek Wind Energy Centre will provide a multitude of economic benefits to the region and the Province of BC. These include the payment of Provincial taxes and fees for the use of Crown Land during the projects 30 year lifespan, a minimum of 25% project equity to one or more local First Nations, and direct community support through the creation of a Community Benefit fund.
The Peace Region has some of the strongest, most consistent onshore wind in Canada with the necessary transmission infrastructure to route electricity generated from the project to areas of the province that require the power. British Columbia has an ideal hydro resource base to integrate wind power.
Since 2005, Invenergy has commissioned over 1 gigawatt of power projects in Ontario and Quebec, enough to power more than 199,500 Canadian homes, and is actively pursuing development in 7 provinces. Invenergy is committed to the economic development of project host communities and experienced in forming partnerships with local communities and First Nations.
Invenergy is the largest, privately-held developer, owner and operator of sustainable energy solutions. A U.S. based company, Invenergy and its affiliated companies have successfully developed more than 30,000 megawatts of projects that are in operation, construction, or contracted, including wind, solar, transmission infrastructure, natural gas power generation and advanced energy storage projects. Its clean energy generation and storage facilities are located across Americas, Europe, and Asia.
